The Routeen Web App: An A* grade A-level Independent Research Project

Project Date: February 2021

Project Background: As a part of my A-level Independent Research Project for Computer Science A-level, it was mandated that I research an existing problem affecting people in modern society. I was then required to analyse, design, develop, and test a solution to said problem. The Routeen Web App is the result of a 3 month-long exercise where I aimed to solve a problem I had researched for the sake of my studies, completed over the COVID-19 lockdown period. I was awarded a Distinction*, the highest possible grade that could have been achieved for my efforts.

Project Brief: Routeen is a web app designed to alleviate the organisational struggles faced by self-employed individuals transitioning from traditional careers to entrepreneurship, and recent graduates of higher education, transitioning from academic life to the corporate world. The app provides a structured framework for users to plan and execute their daily routines facilitating effective time management and progress tracking. With customisable routines and countdown timers, users can tailor their schedules to align with personal preferences and goals. Users are able to log completion status for each task for each day and receive insightful statistics, not only on a weekly or monthly basis but at any time according to their preference and convenience. Primarily targeting individuals aged 21-32 in the UK, the app prioritises inclusivity, adhering to accessibility standards to accommodate diverse user backgrounds and preferences.

The project was designed in Figma and developed in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and SQL. For the full 166-page 20,000+ word pdf submission file to the exam board, click this link.
